BC TEL PRESSURED BY B'NAI BRITH TO SHUT DOWN INTERNET SERVICE
British Columbia's largest provider of high-speed Internet access is
currently being pressured into shutting off service to a small Okanogan
Internet Service Provider called Fairview Technology Centre Ltd. because
of complaints they have received from a self-appointed Jewish advocacy
group called B'nai Brith.
According to the March 28, 1998 Vancouver Sun, B'nai Brith's
vice-president, David Matas had a meeting with BC Tel and demanded that
they pull the plug on Fairview Technology claiming " ... that they give
access to hate-group promoters".
Mr. Matas, who is a lawyer, should know better than to label Fairview
Tech. clients as "hate-group promoters". In Canada, we have laws on the
books which make it illegal to "hate", see specifically section 319 and
320 of the criminal code. None of Fairview's clients have been
convicted, much less ever charged under Canada's odious hate law. You
can not call someone a murderer if they have never been convicted of
murder, nor can you call someone a hater when they have never been
convicted of hate.
But Matas is better than Sol (the LIAR) Littman, supposed director of
the Simon Wienthal Centre in Canada, who actually called the entire town
of Oliver, BC, the "Hate Capitol of Canada". Sol Littman is exposed as

In an April BC Tel press release, (full text below), Dorothy Byrne, BC
TELECOM's vice-president of law and regulatory affairs, said "We don't
want to play the role of censor, but at the same time we also don't want
to do business with any company that violates criminal laws".
Unfortunately, Dorothy this is not Wonderland. Neither Fairview nor
any of its' website clients have been charged with any violation of
Canadian law.
Hopefully BC Telecom will stop taking direction from parasitic lawyers
who make a living off of trying to impose their will and their agenda on
others.
GET INVOLVED NOW
You can get involved also. Write to BC Telecom and ask them to respect
freedom of speech in this country and take a "hands off", "common
carrier" approach. As a telephone company, they have no right,
qualifications or responsibility to censor content that flows over it's
lines.
Mention to BC Telecom that if they play the role of censor, that you
will take your LONG DISTANCE business elsewhere, as well as asking all
your friends in British Columbia to do the same. And yes, BC Tel. we
have LOTS of friends in BC!

Dear Sirs:
An article in the March 28's Vancouver Sun came as a real shock.
The Vancouver Sun article said, in part: "BC Tel should cut off service
to Fairview Technology of Oliver 'because they give access to hate-group
promoters,' David Matas said. ...'It's basically that they can do it and
they should do it. Legally nothing stops them. There are standards that
suggest that they should do it,' said Matas."
The suggestion that BC Tel deny service to longtime customer FTCnet
because vociferous pro-censorship groups like B'nai Brith don't like
some of the clients that ISP FTCnet rents space to is breathtaking in
its totalitarian arrogance.
As a provider of telephone service, BC Tel enjoys a monopoly. With this
commercial position comes the responsibility, naturally, to provide
service to anyone who pays. Censorship and discrimination are simply not
an option.
B'nai Brith, sadly, indulges in language excesses that may well amount
to slander. To label some of FTCnet's clients "hate groups" is to assert
that these groups have broken Canadian law -- the willful promotion of
hatred being contrary to Section 319 of the Criminal Code. None of these
groups has ever been so charged or convicted. The accusation that these
are "hate" sites is rhetorical overkill.
I urge you to continue to serve the B.C. public fairly and to reject the
censorship calls of the totalitarians in our midst.

people around the world who have rallied to the defence of free speech
on the Internet. People in other lands know what it means to have lost
their freedoms. Again I urge you to tell the would-be censors firmly and
definitely "NO".
If you do proceed and try to act as a censor, I will change to another
long distance carrier and ask all my friends to also switch, and not
support a company which imposes it's will on it's clientele.

BACKGROUND ON B'NAI BRITH
B'nai Brith has long been known in Canada for their outright lies and
have on occasion used underhanded fearmongering techniques to facilitate
their dark anti-freedom agenda. On the Internet, a small group calling
itself Nizkor, uses B'nai Briths tax number to solicit funds contrary to
Revenue Canada's policies. The B'nai Brith is currently under
investigation by Revenue Canada after receiving complaints from a number
of Canadians who have been victims of various B'nai Brith smear
campaigns like the one currently being perpetrated on Bernard Klatt, the
owner of Fairview Technology Centre Ltd.
B'nai Brith even supports terrorist groups such as Toronto's Anti-Racist
Action (ARA) who have a very long and violent past. In June 1993, over
200 Anti-Racist Action terrorists, their faces covered with ski masks
and proudly waving ARA banners attacked and vandalized the home of a
political opponent in east end Toronto, smashing windows, throwing
paint, cherry bombs, human excrement, and even a child's tricycle
through a broken window. When Metro Police Constable Todd Baylis was
murdered two summers ago, ARA activists on their Upper Cut radio show on
CIUT, wildly applauded his murder, clapping and cheering this "victory"
over "social injustice" and oppression." And to underscore their

Lawyers and administrators at BC Tel should take a long hard look at the
B'nai Brith before rushing to their side.
